Community Design & Action Capstone Track

In collaboration with Drachman Institute, the project team is comprised of University of Arizona 5th year architecture students. Their year-long capstone project includes a Fall Inquiry Course + Spring Capstone Design Studio.

The purpose of the project is to develop personal transitional housing/shelters (micro shelters) built and placed for Tucson residents currently experiencing homelessness. This project will include: design and prototyping of micro shelters for persons currently living on the streets of Tucson; master planning of St. Francis site; cost-estimating, sourcing building materials, and investigating manufacturing/fabrication processes. The work will span approximately eight months, from September 2024 to early May 2025.

They are working collaboratively to create and present their research and design ideas to inspire and inform the future development of Tucson Hope Factory & St. Francis Shelter Community.
