Community Design & Action Capstone Track

CAPLA Team

In collaboration with Drachman Institute, the project team is comprised of University of Arizona 5th year architecture students. Their year-long capstone project includes a Fall Inquiry Course + Spring Capstone Design Studio.

The project developed personal transitional shelters (micro shelters) for Tucson residents experiencing homelessness: design and prototyping, master planning of the St. Francis site, cost-estimating, sourcing building materials, and investigating manufacturing and fabrication processes. The work spanned roughly eight months, from September 2024 to early May 2025, and their research and design ideas will inspire and inform the future development of Tucson Hope Factory & St. Francis Shelter Community.

THF maintains a maximum 15% overhead rate (Facilities and Administration or F&A) for outside contracts.
